Sports Performance Therapy

Gary spent many years as a sports commentator for broadcasters including Sky Sports and Channel 4 before retraining as a psychotherapist. He has also served as Sports Performance Psychotherapist at Oxford United Football Club, providing him with invaluable insight into the mental health needs of professional sportspeople.
His work with elite athletes has helped them to navigate issues including loss of form, performance anxiety, personal crises, career transitions, alcohol and gambling addictions, and the psychological impact of injury.

Qualifications and Experience
Gary holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and BA (Hons) from the University of Wales. He is accredited by the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
As creator and host of the groundbreaking and award-winning talkSPORT podcast, ‘On the Sporting Couch’, Gary has brought mental health in elite sport to a mainstream audience. In conversation with Gary, sporting legends including the likes of Brian Moore, Rebecca Adlington and Marcus Trescothick, have opened up on common challenges such as depression, anxiety, alcohol and gambling addiction, and dealing with the pressures of fame.
Gary has also written a book, ‘Keeping Your Head in the Game’ (Penguin Books, 2021), following the journey of ten athletes in their therapy sessions.
