Gary specialises in helping clients overcome obstacles to achieving their potential, working with individuals facing depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and life transitions. He has extensive experience supporting everyone from elite sports professionals and business executives to teenagers who are struggling to find their place in life.
Before entering the field of psychotherapy, Gary spent many years as a sports commentator. This unique background has informed his work with elite athletes, helping them navigate issues including loss of form, performance anxiety, relationship challenges, and personal crises that impact performance. His experience includes serving as Sports Performance Psychotherapist at Oxford United Football Club, providing him with invaluable insight into the mental health needs of professional athletes.
As creator and host of the award-winning TalkSPORT radio programme ‘On the Sporting Couch‘, Gary has brought mental health conversations into mainstream sport, featuring candid therapy sessions with celebrity athletes discussing their personal struggles. His groundbreaking work in this area led to the publication of his book, Keeping Your Head in the Game, published by Penguin Books in 2021.
Building on his experience with elite athletes, Gary has developed comprehensive workplace wellbeing training programmes and support packages for corporate clients, helping organisations foster healthier, more resilient workforces. He is also the creator of an engaging online course, “Introduction to sports psychotherapy”.
Gary offers online therapy sessions throughout the UK, with in-person sessions available in Faringdon, Oxfordshire.
